S.W.A.G. Artist Bio: Rell Stylez

Rell Stylez is an activist, educator, artist, writer, and public intellectual who resides with his wife in West Philadelphia. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Stylez grew up active in the neighborhood hip hop circles as an emcee and as a graffiti writer. As a teenager he attended Moore Art College Summer Program which exposed him to the unique styles of other young artists of different races and cultures. After graduating from Lamberton High School Stylez became involved with the vibrant political movement for social justice and equality tackling a range of issues effecting the African American Community such as the inequalities in education, violence in urban communities, poverty, the prison industrial complex, and a range of other pressing issues.



He currently works with troubled youth in the Philadelphia public schools who he calls "the light of the world" and is involved with various community efforts in creating alternative educational models to strengthen the minds of Black youth.


Rell Stylez is also co owner of Greedy Carnival Clothing Company which specializes in fashion and urban lifestyle.
 
As a founding member of S.W.A.G Stylez see himself as part of a "cultural renaissance" of Black artists that he says "will set the new blueprint in Black culture for generations to come by synthesizing artistic expression, spirituality, and politics for social transformation."
