Please join us on October 28, 2011 as we celebrate and bring awareness to AfroFuturistic culture with feature ar......tists, authors, and performers present works and creations that connect back to AfroFuturism and Black Science-Fiction. We also invite you to dress the part of the Afro-Futurist by wearing a costume that reflects the AfroFuturism aesthetic. You can also have custom-made costumes created by feyasterling inc. AfroFuturism is a literary, artistic and cultural aesthetic that considers Blackness as it looks and is defined in the future, examines science fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, and magic as it critiques the present-day situations of people of color, explores the implications of technology on Black art and literature, and interrogates historical events involving Blacks across the diaspora. Popular artists, musicians, theorists, and writers who can be linked to AfroFuturism include: Sun Ra, Saul Williams, Toni Morrison, Erykah Badu, Nalo Hopkinson, Outkast, Octavia Butler, Janelle Monae, Amiri Baraka, Wu Tang Clan, Jean-Michel Basquiat, George Clinton, Samuel Delaney, and many, many more.

ADMISSION

Sharp with Art Group (SWAG) is looking for artists to participate in our next exhibition titled Keep It Movin'. The selected artists will be asked to showcase their current or past works relating to the theme of Keep It Movin'. The art show will be held on First Friday, September 2, 2011 at Top Hat, located at 2nd & Market. You will be showcasing alongside other artists. There will be a DJ, appetizers, drink specials, select vendors, giveaways and more.

The Arts Garage is hosting its first “Art in Your Junk” flea market. Come trade, sell, batter, lay-away, and, or exchange unwanted art works of all medium/media. Pull them out from the cellar, from under the sofa, and from everywhere else you are hiding unwanted artworks. No used clothes, books, furnitures or items that are not ART or of ART!

Calling art junkies, collectors, enthusiasts and art lovers to an indoor and outdoor art sell-off from noon until 6pm on July 30, 2011.

SWAG FEATURE: West Park Arts Festival

This past Saturday, June 11th, the West Park Arts Festival was held at The School of the Future, Sharp with Art Group volunteered their time to fulfill any and all imaginative requests for face painting. All the kids LOVED get their face and arms painted.  Neef & Shizz painted the kids while Rell & Casso painited on the Canvas.  The other two S.W.A.G. artists did a live art piece that was donated to the West Park Cultural Center.
